Wantage Town host Bedford Town in a huge game at Alfredian Park. It is top against bottom of the league and this game has big meaning. If Bedford win they could relegate Wantage Town depending on results. If Bedford win it is a huge step towards the title but if Wantage Town win they gain a glimmer of hope and could jump ahead of Colney Heath.
Going into the game, Bedford are firm favourites and look as if it should be a relatively easy job. The reverse resulted in a 8-1 thrashing at the Eyrie for Wantage Town. Wantage Town recently picked up a big point on the road in a 2-2 draw with Welwyn Garden City. This season Wantage Town have had some heavy defeats, some of which were a 5-0 loss against Berkhamsted, a 1-5 loss against Aylesbury United, a 3-5 loss against FC Romania, a 9-1 beating at Ware, a 8-1 loss against Swindon Supermarine which was followed by the 8-1 loss against Bedford and a 7-0 loss against Harlow Town. An interesting stat for the game is that it is top scorers of the league Bedford Town play against the team with most goals concede which is Wantage Town. An incredible amount of 63 points separate the two sides and Wantage Town have won once since November. In theory, Bedford should run out clear winners in the run in for the title but like Wantage Town did against Welwyn Garden City they could get a shock result Bedford will be feeling a lot more confident going into the game than their opponents. With striker Rene Howe in red hot form, Alex Street keeping Clean Sheets most weeks and Charley Sanders grabbing a cheeky goal every week they will have high expectations for this game. I have no doubt it will be high-scoring!
Bedford will be looking to maintain their unbeaten run and grab a win after last week's draw with a stubborn North Leigh side. Wantage Town will want to end this torrid run of results and pull off the shock of the season and beat table-topping Bedford and have a shot at survival
