It feels like I wrote one of these yesterday but no - it was last week. Once again I am previewing this big game between two great sides. They met in the Beds Senior Trophy final last week and Stotfold ran out 0-4 winners. They now face off in the league and it is a massive game and arguably bigger than the cup final last week.
Both teams will go into the game needing and wanting a win. This is a deciding game for both sides as their season's hopes could either happen or be delayed and maybe even drift away.
For Stotfold, a win would see them the league and see them gain promotion to Step 5. Stotfold will be feeling confident as they beat Shefford 0-4 as recently as a week ago. Brett Donnelly and his men have been formidable this season and are steaming towards the league title. When they played Shefford last week, they dominated from the start and never looked threatened. However there will be a different feel to this game because of what is at stake. Getting the league title wrapped up tonight against Shefford will mean a lot. It will not be their only opportunity as if they draw tonight and Winslow drop points against Langford on Wednesday the league title will be confirmed.
On the other hand, this is also a massive game for Shefford. If Shefford win tonight they will have confirmed their spot in the play-offs and delay their rivals winning the league in their backyard. Shefford are already out of reach from Bedford FC who now can't catch them and a win will put them out of sight for 6th placed Northampton Sileby Rangers meaning they will have a spot in the play-offs. Shefford will be one of the favourites if not the favourites to win the play-offs if they qualify. Striker Henry Snee is back and ready to go now and he will be looking to terrorise the Stotfold back line. Also Jonny McNamara hit 40 goals this season on Saturday against Kidlington FC Reserves in the 1-3 win.
Try to get to the JSJ Stadium to watch, I can guarantee it will be worth it!
