The JSJ Stadium was ready to host the quarter final of the Gladwish trophy. Ampthill travelled to Stotfold much like they did earlier this season which they drew 1-1. Stotfold were hopeful for a solid win and to advance to the semi finals. Ampthill very much want the same.
Stotfold's playing style began to show quickly as they got off to a flying start. They took the lead within 3 minutes when a good low cross found it's way to Joe Sutton who bundled in from close range. Stotfold then hit the crossbar from a cross but looked like they would be getting a second. The game then calmed down and Ampthill started playing with some urgency. The Ampthill defence were very good throughout the first half. Stotfold went in at half time 1-0 up. The second half livened up as chances came flying in. The Ampthill goalkeeper was tested a few times. I would say as the game came closer to the end Ampthill started pushing for an equaliser. The Stotfold goalkeeper made some great saves and one from point-blank range. The Ampthill goalkeeper tipped a great Stotfold effort over the bar but it was given as a goal kick. Perhaps the greatest save of all was the goalkeeper of Stotfold when a creature ran on to the pitch and he picked it up and carefully placed it outside. With less than ten minutes to go there was an equaliser. A nice ball was whipped in and Josh Peacock headed it goal-bound and the Stotfold goalkeeper thought he kept it out but the ball bundled in. Ampthill now looked to hold out for the final 5 minutes or so to drag the game to penalties or even maybe nab a winner. But it wasn't to be as Stotfold instantly re-took the lead. It was Jordan Stevenson who scored after a nice ball was whipped in and he headed it in despite the goalkeeper giving his best efforts to keep it out. Stotfold won the game 2-1.
This now means Stotfold will advance to the semi-finals of the Gladwish Trophy. It looked as if it was going to be the exact same result as they clashed earlier this season. Ampthill thought they got another smash and grab goal but this was cancelled out by a late winner from Stotfold.
