Shefford Town & Campton hosted Bedford FC in the quarter final of the Division one cup. Bedford were back and hoping for revenge after their last visit resulted in a 4-1 loss. Shefford have been very injury hit with a lot of the team injured. A spot in the semi finals awaited.
Shefford started the first half the brighter. A few flash crosses in but no real clear cut chances came. A big chance for Shefford did come when Jonny McNamara put a great ball in the box and if anyone was there it would be a certain goal. Unfortunately, no one was and it was cleared. Shefford kept going at it but nothing came. Bedford's only real chances came from counter attacks. The half finished 0-0. In the second half Shefford kept playing nice football. They had a penalty appeal after Jonny McNamara skipped past the Bedford defence but was tripped inside the area. The referee said no penalty but in my eyes it was a blatant penalty. Shefford had one more good chance from a corner which just missed the target. With about 5 minutes to go Paul Morris was sent back to the dugout after talking back to the referee and was awarded a sin bin. The tie went to penalties.
Both sides scored their first penalty. Shefford were taking first and had the advantage after Bedford's penalty taker Josh Bamford missed thanks to a brilliant save from Reece Lewis. Shefford kept going and had the 1 goal advantage going into the last penalty. Goalkeeper Reece Lewis stepped up to take the winning penalty and smashed the ball into the side netting and fired Shefford into the semi finals.
