Letchworth ease to three points at home- Letchworth Garden CIty Eagles 3-0 Thame United res

Letchworth Garden City Eagles beat Thame United Reserves 3-0 at Pixmore Playing Fields in an easy win for the home side. There was plenty of action in this match and some bizarre moments.

It was a quiet start to the match abut Letchworth were on top. Letchworth had a good chance when a cross in was headed goalbound by a Letchworth forward but it whizzed past the post.

Midway through the first half, Letchworth took the lead. This was after a poor past by a Thame player which was picked up by Dempsey Thomas on the half way line. After taking one shot, he took on an audacious shot for 40+ yards out and lobbed the goalkeeper to put Letchworth ahead.

Soon after this, Thame were down to ten men. This was after the captain had a problem with the armband and either took it off or threw it. He then was yellow carded and sin binned by the referee. Once in the dugout, he took off his sock and threw it at the referee, earning himself a second yellow card and being sent off.

Just before half time, Letchworth got a second. This was after another controversial decision from the referee. Letchworth had the ball on the edge of the box and a forward released a shot which a Thame player bravely threw himself at. The referee saw the ball hit his hand, despite it being in a natural position, and gave a penalty.

Sonny Coughlin-Brown took it and it was saved by the goalkeeper but the rebound was put away by Coughlin-Brown to double the home side's lead. Thame felt very hard done by and the first half finished 2-0.

In the second half, the game died down a bit. Credit to Thame who defended well considering the circumstances and kept the ball away from their goal.

This was until the 80th minute when Letchworth got a third. This was after an excellent through ball to Sonny Coughlin-Brown who calmly slotted the ball past the goalkeeper to seal three points for Letchworth. The game finished 3-0.

A big win for Letchworth Garden City Eagles in the Spartan South Midlands Division One as they move to tenth in the league. Congratulations to Letchworth on the win!
