The first official post of the 22/23 season and it is the match preview of Hitchin Town vs Luton Town. It is becoming an annual fixture between the two sides at Top Field and a massive crowd is expected.
Hitchin Town will be looking to better last season's result which finished in a 0-7 win for Luton Town with Jordan Clark scoring 4 on the day. Hitchin Town had an up and down season last year where they finished 17th. This fixture is definitely a highlight of the season for the Hitchin Town players and fans. Over 1500 people are expected and that attendance tops last season's turnout by a few hundred. It is a great challenge for Hitchin Town to start the season. Hitchin also play against Stevenage and Boreham Wood at Top Field later this month. The defence will be challenged by the attack of Luton Town as new recruit Cauley Woodrow and not to mention other forwards such as Elijah Adebayo, Cameron Jerome, Harry Cornick, Carlos Mendes Gomes, Admiral Muskwe. Mark Burke's men are expecting a very tough game but Hitchin are very capable of giving Luton Town a scare.
Onto Luton Town, the Championship side had a fantastic 21/22 campaign finishing 6th and making the play-offs. Despite being knocked out in the semi-final by Huddersfield Town, the fans of Luton Town will still look back at last season very fondly and will be looking to build on that this season. This fixture will also be a good opportunity to get a first glimpse of Luton's 3 new recruits. First of all, we have Alfie Doughty joining on a free transfer from Stoke City. The versatile midfielder will probably be making his debut for Luton Town. He is an attacking player who has got a lot of talent. Luton Town's second signing was Cauley Woodrow signing from Barnsley. Cauley Woodrow is a Luton Town academy graduate and he will be buzzing to be back in the famous Luton Town orange. He will be hoping to be on the score sheet for Luton Town for the first time in a while. The most recent signing was Matt Macey from Hibernian for an undisclosed fee. He is also a former Luton Town player making his return to Kenilworth Road. The 6ft 7 shot stopper will be wanting to prove himself at Luton Town and this will be a great opportunity. Luton have also let go of a few players. Kal Naismith went to Bristol City on a free transfer, Luton Town legend Danny Hylton joined Northampton Town on a free transfer and Peter Kioso has joined Rotherham United for an undisclosed fee. Overall, Luton Town will be expecting to win this one by a big scoreline but it will be a good watch!
I am sure this game will be a good one and I will be at Top Field too! Best of luck to both teams, I was at this fixture last season and it was great!
