Groundhopping: Racecourse Ground - Wrexham AFC

Today's journey was a long one but worth while as we ventured across the England and Wales border for today's groundhop. We visited the Racecourse Ground, the home of Wrexham AFC.

You can tell that Wrexham AFC is the heart of the community in Wrexham. There is a pub named 'The Turf' on the grounds of the stadium. In my opinion the Racecourse Ground is a mix between the present and past. Some parts of the ground are new and modern and some are old and characterful. This ground deserves to be in the football league and I believe it won't be long until league football returns.

We drove past on the main road and it immediately jumps out at you. This is the main stand and this stand is quite modern. It wraps around the south of the ground and is an attractive stand. It has the Wrexham AFC logo in the middle of the stand and two Wrexham AFC kits either side. There are also engraved bricks at the bottom. The stand is very weirdly shaped but it makes it what it is. The Kop end is currently undergoing some building work so I didn't get the best look at that. The old turnstiles and gates scream history.

On the north side of the ground is where the club shop is situated. It was a decent sized shop with lots of different merchandise. Once I found it, I went in and had a look around. I purchased a Wrexham AFC pin badge for £2.99 and a programme from their recent play-off semi-final with Grimsby Town which ended 4-5 to the away side. I'm buzzing to get my hands on a programme from such a crazy game and it will be remembered for a long time. Around the back are some gates where you can get a glimpse of the ground through the gaps. It is also right next to the student accommodation. This stand was a similar size to the main stand but more old school.

The last stand was quite small but still a decent size. Overall, this ground is not made for Non-League football, this is a ground for league football. The facilities, the size and everything in between they deserve to be playing at a higher level. Just waiting for the players to go one step further next season.
