Chesterfield faced Notts County in a huge game for both sides as they push for promotion. Chesterfield needed to win desperately as they hunted down Stockport County. Notts County need to catch all the play-off teams as they try to get promotion. It was all set in Chesterfield for a massive game. Notts County started brilliantly and were playing nice football. Chesterfield had few chances and County were dominating. Alex Whittle went off injured for Chesterfield. With 5 minutes to go Notts County took the lead through striker Elisha Sam. He received the ball on the edge of the area and bent the ball into the top corner giving County a 0-1 lead at half time. Things were looking quite bleak at half time for the Spireites being 0-1 down at half time having played badly so far. Paul Cook needed to give one great team talk and he prevailed. A penalty shout a few minutes into the second half and some great chances for Chesterfield lead to a deserved goal for the home side. Laurence Maguire scored on the hour mark who got on the end of a great Calvin Miller cross and headed home for 1-1. It was getting tight as Chesterfield knocked on the door but County showed their threat. With just under 5 minutes to go a goal went in and it was Laurence Maguire of Chesterfield who scored his second of the game to give Chesterfied a huge lead. Similar to his first he scrambled it in at the back post with a massive goal for Chesterfield. Chesterfield didn't stop there though as they kept going as they won a penalty 2 minutes later. Akwasi Asante took and scored to confirm the win for Chesterfield.
This leaves Chesterfield in 2nd and 3 points behind Stockport County having played a game more. They are now 10 points ahead of 8th placed Bromley. Notts County sit 7th only in the play-offs and only 1 point ahead of Bromley and they have played a game more.
