Bashley bash local rivals Christchurch and seal promotion back to Step 4 - Christchurch 0-4 Bashley

An interesting affair between local rivals Christchurch FC and Bashley was ready at Hurn Bridge Sports Club. Bashley needed a win that would see them take second place and promotion back to Step 4. Christchurch were 18th and safe from relegation.

It was a scrappy start to the game and Christchurch sat back and allowed Bashley to play their game. Bashley were passing the ball very well and Christchurch looked as if they were set up to defend. Christchurch weren't doing a high press which is an interesting tactic as Bashley are known for their passing.

Bashley soon had an opener after a break down the left wing which the Christchurch defence failed to deal with and appealed the ball went out of play. The ball was cut back to Matt Tubbs on the edge of the box and his sliced half-volley flew like an arrow in off the post to give Bashley a deserved lead.

It was soon 0-2 after Bashley were awarded a free kick on the left hand side and Christchurch failed to clear and Liam Farrugia headed in for the Bash to give them a 0-2 lead at half time.

Bashley were straight back to it in the second half as Harry Bunce got off the mark after 52 minutes. It was a cross in and a Bashley player headed the ball goalbound but Harry Bunce got the final touch and guided it in for 0-3. Bashley kept going and had a fourth with 12 minutes of regular time to go. It was Lewis Ross who received the ball on the edge of the box and smashed it into the bottom corner to add insult to injury for Christchurch. The action wasn't finished yet as Bashley were down to ten men after Harry Bunce was given a straight red card after retaliating to a Christchurch wind up. The game finished and Bashley were promoted after a 0-4 triumph in their rivals backyard.

Bashley have been having a brilliant season and in particular since the turn of the year. Bashley are now promoted to the Southern League after a solid season. Well done to everyone at Bashley and congratulations on a brilliant season and lets hope the next one is more of the same!
